New Book of Discipline guidelines
Here is how to make sure you are compliant
As of January 1, 2017, the 2016 General Conference amended ¶2533.2 in the Book of Discipline to require the local church board of trustees to:
- Annually compare your current insurance to the schedule published by GCFA; and
- Include in your charge conference report the results of this review and "recommendations needed to timely bring the church into compliance with the published schedule".
How we can help:
All UMI insured churches are assisted by UMI in preparation for annual charge conference by sending an annual property and casualty Insurance Affirmation Certificate. This is a summary of their coverage and is designed to be included in the charge conference report, and ensures they comply with the new Disciplinary reporting requirement.
The only mission of United Methodist Insurance (UMI) is to protect the people and property of The United Methodist Church connection in a financially responsible way. We are grateful that we are currently serving more than 3,000 local United Methodist congregations in this ministry.
Additionally, every policy is priced as competitvely as possible. In fact, churches that recently switched to UMI saved an average of $423*. These real savings can be used for your ministry.
