What is United Methodist Insurance (UMI)?
UMI is an insurance company started by the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) of The United Methodist Church; UMI’s mission is to protect the people and property of The United Methodist Church. United Methodist Insurance (UMI) has entered into an agreement with AmVenture Insurance Agency (AmVenture), an affiliate of AmTrust North America (ANA) – a provider that will deliver insurance know-how and an improved customer service experience for ministries protected through UMI. Every policy issued in the new program will continue to meet or exceed the minimum insurance guidelines from the General Council on Finance and Administration as referenced in the Book of Discipline.
Who is AmVenture?
AmVenture Insurance Agency (AmVenture), a subsidiary of AmTrust Financial Services, Inc., is a provider of national business insurance programs to a wide range of organizations, franchises, affinities, unions, associations, and small businesses.
Why did UMI choose to partner with AmVenture Insurance Agency?
UMI saw the unique opportunity to partner with an agency who not only can benefit the 33,000 plus United Methodist churches and millions of members, but also allow the UMI organization itself to benefit from the unique insurance services AmVenture offers. It was important for UMI to partner with an organization willing to adhere to the United Methodist Social Principles – and AmVenture did. AmVenture is an affiliate of AmTrust North America (ANA), whose affiliated insurance carriers have received an A.M. Best “A-” (Excellent) rating. With this change, UMI will no longer bear the risk of insurance-related losses.

What new benefits does the partnership with AmVenture offer?
In addition to the coverages and limits you have experienced in the past, AmTrust’s products and coverages offer numerous enhancements to the United Methodist Church Insurance Program that can better protect your church.
- The necessary continuity of service to local churches that are currently insured. The program is expected to become effective for current insured properties January 1, 2019.

Will my current policy with UMI lapse?
No, your current UMI policy written through Church Insurance will not renew (you will be notified about 90 days before your policy is set to expire with a notice of nonrenewal). AmVenture will be transitioning your current policy into the new program. You do not have any action to take beyond making your first payment, which you will receive, an invoice for in the mail. In the event that AmVenture needs additional information in order complete your new policy package, a licensed AmVenture Insurance Agent will reach out to you.
When will my current policy change over to the new AmVenture program?
All current UMI policies are expected to be converted to a new policy through AmVenture at the time of the scheduled renewal date January 1st, 2019. If your current policy is renewing prior to January 1st, 2019, your policy will renew in the current UMI program administered by Church Insurance Company. Your policy would be placed in the new program next year at the time of the scheduled renewal date
If I am currently utilizing a broker, will I lose my broker upon conversion to AmVenture?
You will not lose your current broker. AmVenture is currently committed to working with all existing UMI brokers to transition any current UMI business or attract any new business.
Will my current premium amount change?
With the conversion of current UMI policies to AmVenture, it is possible that a UMI customer’s premium may change. It should be noted that the change in premium could be one which results in less premium, or in some cases, more premium.
Who will service my current or new policy?
AmVenture has a team of 8 dedicated Customer Care Agents to service all UMI customers. The AmVenture team can be reached at (866)203-0777 for sales, claims, and customer care.
What information will I be expected to provide when obtaining an insurance quote for my church?
AmVenture typically needs the current policy declarations page, including all coverages, limits, buildings/property, and other insurable interest information, as well as past claims history.
How long does it take to activate a new policy?
From the time a UMI customer requests a quote to the time a new policy can be activated typically could take anywhere from 3-6 weeks.
How do I file a claim?
AmVenture/UMI customers who need to file a claim can do so by contacting (866) 203-0777 and follow the prompts to reach our claims department. For policies that are written in the old UMI program through Church Insurance, a claim can be filed by calling (855)-696-0570.
