  • What is the United Methodist Insurance Program (UMIP)?
    UMIP was started by the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) with the mission of offering insurance for United Methodist Churches, agencies, and related institutions nationwide. UMIP provides robust property and casualty coverage solutions as well as travel insurance for individuals and trip protection for mission groups, United Methodist Meetings, and other travel.
  • What makes UMIP different?
    UMIP is the only coverage provider with direct ties to the church community. Powered by Sovereign Insurance Group for property and casualty insurance, UMIP offers an extensive knowledge of the minimum insurance requirements set forth by the General Council on Finance and Administration in adherence with the Book of Discipline. UMIP understands United Methodist churches and its goal is to offer solutions that help ministries thrive.

    Minimum insurance requirements for United Methodist churches were developed and implemented to provide a schedule of the recommended coverages and limits that a church should carry to help ensure that it is adequately insured. They were developed based on the exposures faced by individual churches, industry best practices, professional assessments by UMI and its partners’ experts, and claims trends in connection with UMIP and other carriers and organizations. The goal of these minimum requirements is to help ensure that churches maintain appropriate protection in the event of a loss.
